Background / General descriptionIFC, a member of the World Bank Group, is the largest global development institution focused on the private sector in emerging markets. In FY24, IFC displayed an all-time record of US$ 56 billion in commitments - including over $22 billion mobilized from partners. We are leveraging our capital, expertise, and influence to help the private sector create a world free from poverty on a livable planet. For more information, visit www.ifc.org. The Infrastructure and Natural Resources Department (CNG) is responsible for sourcing and executing investment transactions in the power, transport, utilities, etc. areas. Within the Infra department, the Global ‘Municipal and Environmental Infrastructure team’, CNGME (provide debt and equity investment in the municipal, solid waste and water sectors. IFC has made challenging promises to contribute through its investments to reducing climate change (CC) in emerging markets. Starting from this Fiscal Year2025, all our direct investments will align with the objectives of the Paris Agreement (PA). Climate change (CC) disproportionately impacts the poor. We have a significant opportunity by investing in the municipal, waste and water sector to both reduce GHG emissions[1] and adapting to the impacts of CC. The activities of the Municipal, Waste & Circularity and Water Teams within CNG include: ‒ Business Development, ‒ Projects screening and Paris Agreement alignment assessment, ‒ Project appraisals to inform investment decision including assessing the CC impacts, ‒ Providing project support during the preparation, construction and operation phases, and ‒ Knowledge management activities. Besides, the Waste & Circularity and Water teams support the policy development and project assessment approach for climate related aspects in the respective sectors, working closely with the IFC’s Climate Business Team. IFC offers a highly challenging and stimulating working environment, with outstanding opportunities for professional growth. The successful candidate is expected to be based in Washington DC IFC headquarters. IFC is involved in promoting gender equity and therefore would gladly welcome applications from suitably qualified female candidates.
The Industry Specialist’s roleWithin CNGME, the Industry Specialists (IS) provide the specific sector-related knowledge required during the implementation of any of the activities above (together with some other departments such as the Climate Business Department for the Projects Climate Considerations Assessments). They provide sector expertise for the technical and operational aspects of investment proposals, including climate change impact assessments.
